Dungarees and Dandelions

As shadows dance under streetlights of Newcastle,

So do my memories of you.

Sunlight bounds over pebbles and rock,

I remember sunshine and seaside getaways.

The smell of you every Sunday morning Church,

Estée Lauder – Private Collection draped your neck scarf.

As felt shapes make for a sunny day picture.

Strands of your hair curl around my fingers

While I lay safe in your arms.

Early mornings with cereal and walks,

Adventures for two brave warriors.

Cooking in the kitchen, five kids around a stove,

Each one more eager than the next to stir the pudding mix.

Siblings fighting to lick the spoon, to lick the bowl.

My teacher, my rock and my best friend.

My guardian angel watching over everything I do.

Our eyes the same, I’ve got your kindness.

"You were the comfort I needed,

The hope for me to carry on,

You were the air that kept me breathing,

You were the strength that kept me strong."
