Happy New Year you absolutely fantastic people.
My first post of the year!
I truly hope everyone had a magical Christmas and New Year.
I know that for a lot of us, Christmas can be an extremely stressful time - what with ensuring you've got a gift for everyone, enough food to see you through until New Year, travel journeys to see family, not being able to be around family, some of us working over the festive period. But whatever stress has held you, I hope the new year has just washed all that away for you.
I have been having a great year so far! Even though we're only just into our second week!
After a few years of not really knowing what I wanted to do in life and just sort of floating around for a bit with no real drive, motivation or passion, it took its toll on me. I was getting fed up of feeling useless. I felt guilty for being so picky with my lifestyle and career choices. But I think that pickyness paid off in the end. Not just regarding work, family, friends etc but for life in general. I gave myself a bit of extra time to really think about not only what I want, but what I deserve. I've managed to focus on myself a bit more, discover my passion.
On the lead up to Christmas and New Year, I really rediscovered my love for crafts again. I have been playing with candle making, cement based crafts, pyrography, clay, card making and so much more. I so adore creating and crafting and want to make my crafts a big part of my life. Not to totally give away the ending, but I've sat down with my partner, had some long chats and made the five and ten year plans! Rough drafts so far but that's the fun of life. I'm hoping my crafts can be a stable foundation in the future. I'm sticking at it, getting my head stuck down and focusing on me. This year is for getting what I deserve and want, but it's also about giving back in any way I can because I think we could all use a bit of extra kindness in life.
Here are a few examples of some of the crafts I did over Christmas!
A few handmade kraft style cards and some personalised wood burned Christmas decorations.
A little space/adventure themed tray perfect for jewellery, tea and biscuits, bits and bobs or anything else. Not fully complete as I want to add more and varnish. Really happy with this piece.
So I went for, from left to right: Baby powder & fresh linen, vanilla and pecan pie, and chocolate chip cookie scents. Delicious.
(The chocolate chip cookie & pecan pie ones smell good enough to eat!)
So not only do I want to share the crafts I've done, but also some nice food and good recipes! We have decided we want a nice hot holiday this year - we were looking at Marrakech or Greece around August/September time - any suggestions welcome! So this year we are healthy! (relatively).
I'm a lazy cook.
I absolutely adore cooking and baking, but I am the human equivalent of a sloth and so simple, easy recipes that I can whack up in ten minutes are perfect for me. This year I am on the hunt for some simple and tasty treats.
As a vegetarian with a meat eating partner, I'm always searching for meals to try that we can both enjoy together. Also, as the pickiest eater in the world finding things is always difficult! haha
Here are a few things I made over the past few weeks:
I love arborio rice. This was a garden pea, fresh garlic and pine nut risotto with herbs. Delish easy veggie meal that you can whack in a pan and leave while you go do some crafting!
Of course it wouldn't be winter without homemade soups. I adore soup. I could eat it for every meal in winter with a nice crusty roll or cheese toastie! The soup here was a roasted tomato and herb with root vegetable soup. Easy cheese toastie to dip in and you've got a winning meal.
One of my favourites of the many ways to have my favourite food, potatoes! This is fresh pesto and pine nut pan-fried gnocchi with herbs and cheese. Delicious.
So if you're a veggie or vegan, you will most likely have seen an advert for the new Meatless Meatball Marinara that Subway have released (absolutely sublime by the way!). But before they did, I just had to make my own. I believe the veggie style meatballs were from Iceland? No more than I'd say about £2 for a pack. Amazing.
We made a delicious stir fry with steamed garden vegetables and chicken style pieces with sweet chilli sauce. Bang on.
Just a few of the many creations that happen in our magical little kitchen at home! As you can probably tell, I am a carb monster.
I hope to be more active as of this year, really getting into the website and my crafts. I'm planning on posting a lot more and sharing a lot more with you so keep your eyes peeled! This is my year 💪
I really hope you have all had a lovely Christmas and New Year.
Please do let me know if you've got any ideas for crafts or cooking!
Peace & love
H.T.
